Miss Mod

I spent some time trying to make these photos look like they could have been Technicolor-ish and I think I got the effect I wanted.

It's been a moment since I've done an outfit post.
I haven't gotten a chance to show off this amazing scarf I found at Wicker Park boutique that is closing, Caza. Formerly Lenny & Me (which was a fantastic vintage shop) owners are closing due to rent being raised. This scarf couldn't be more me. It has hand pockets too!

I also found these over-sized orange-ish flower earrings at what I call a "little junk store" for a dollar over on Milwaukee Ave. I didn't need them, but I can't resist plastic jewelry. And a dollar?! Yes please.

 I'd take more photos outside, but it still hasn't been all that nice out in the Midwest yet, topping out at about 47 degrees today. Not normal this time of year. Plus, I have a fabulously retro house, so why not stay inside?

 This outfit is a variation on one I wore to work sometime last week. The whole "mod" thing could be gimmicky to most people, but I've had elements of this particular style in me as long as I can remember. As a kid, I listened to nothing but oldies radio and counted "Incense and Peppermints" by Strawberry Alarm Clock among my favorite songs. My favorite album was the Beatles' Past Masters Volume 1, 2nd disc specifically. So you can't really blame me. Blame mostly my dad.

I HAD to have these shoes when I saw them last year on DSW's website. Anyone who knows me well knows that I actually despise shoes but these called my name. I spent about $80 on them which is insane for me but they're also me in shoe-form. By fantastically fun UK brand Irregular Choice.


Sort of ridiculous candelabra pictures, but lately me and Max have been having fun late at night, watching Night Gallery. The last one we watched was 2 stories about "haunted" houses, but haunted in a slightly different sense and by people you're familiar with. I don't think Night Gallery is Rod Serling's best work (as he didn't have as much creative control over it as Twilight Zone) but I have seen much of Twilight Zone from marathons as a kid on New Year's Day. It's nice to see something "new".

I'm off to go work on cutting the fabric finally for the Judy dress as I finalized my sewing patterns the other night. I just need to cut and sew now!

Latch Hook Rug Update

A little under a month ago I received all of my supplies to take on one of the biggest long-term projects I have ever taken on - a self-designed latch hook rug. I don't know why, but I am clearly nuts. So beginning today I am posting photos each month, (preferably on the 1st of each month) progress of this gigantic shag rug. Sport Skirt PDF Sewing Pattern

Hi all -- SO EXCITED that I have completed my 1st PDF sewing pattern that is heading out to testers soon! Many of you long-time followers know that this has been a dream of mine for some-odd 6 years or so at this point, and the moment is finally here! It's honestly a blessing to have more time to work on patterns and design projects at this moment in time. I know it's a very difficult time for many, but I am extremely grateful to be able to pursue design interests and create some more fun things to sew for you all in the mean time! This skirt is slated to be my 1st sewing pattern release -- the Sport Skirt! It is a ponte knit skirt with slash side pockets that are hidden within the contrast of the skirt. Originally, this skirt came about because I had a plain orange skirt from Brooklyn Industries that I loved (and still have!) but I also loved the pocket design I did on what I called my Mix n Match Dress from 2012. Shingo Sato and the Art of Transformational Reconstruction

So I got really excited on my break at work today when I got an email from Burda about a webinar they're doing on a pattern technique called "Transformational Reconstruction" developed by Japanese designer Shingo Sato. I hadn't even heard of Shingo Sato until today let alone his design technique but oddly, it's sort of the path I'm going down with my designs anyway as seen with the Sunrise Panel dress as well as the Petra Dress and the pattern making involved in those designs. What I did there is perhaps a "light" version of Sato's where the darts and shaping are hidden in the seam lines. If you've been reading this blog long enough, you know that my design aesthetic focuses largely on color blocking, unusual seam lines, and a love of anything psychedelic.
