It's been way too long since my last post on here.
I made SOME things in 2019 (a pair of flare jeans I edited from Burda pattern #6543, a crop top from a vintage 70s Simplicity pattern, Mood's Brya pants whipped up quick, and a TR experiment that only failed because my pattern blocks are somehow STILL not a perfect fit. Ugh.) But I mostly was still adjusting to life in Grand Rapids, enjoying the 1st full summer in GR, enjoying the Beetle convertible(s). .... I know. Our asses ended up with two of them. Not gonna question it, just gonna roll with it (haha).
I would like to keep documenting what I make though because honestly.... sometimes I look at something and go "How tf did I do that? What did I do to edit that?" I take some pretty decent notes within my pattern packets but still.
So this awesome colorblock hoodie!
I was browsing Pinterest one day and saw this hack and immediately I knew I wanted one. I know... I know.... I have like 3-5 other projects sitting around but Patrick was like "Let's go get some fabric for that."
I started cutting it out in December but yeah... holidays.... so I paused on it for quite some time.
The pattern is by Hey June Handmade and technically, it's the Lane Raglan but of course I hacked the hoodie as mentioned.
I knew I wanted the grommets on here, but it took me a minute to figure out *exactly* how to get it right. Turns out it's best to not only interface the back there, but also to use a square of non-stretch material to anchor the knit into.
That and a finagle-y way of clipping a small hole in the inside before adding the grommet, hammering one side lightly, then the other, and then..... yeah, it's a process and I wasted like 10 grommets on scrap before I got it right but I STILL GOT IT RIGHT.
I learned how to make thumbhole cuff on this one too which is awesome because I look for thumbholes in any hoodie I buy (which is like, one right now, lol)
Winter's been a weird one here so far, but I declare winter as my official sewing/crafting season. It's way too nice in the summer to quarter yourself up with sewing so I try not to. Summer in Michigan is often so short that I can't justify holing up that much during then.
Upcoming: I am hacking a New Look pattern to make my (eek) wedding dress. I know I said I would NEVER make my own wedding dress but I can't find anything remotely close to what I want nor am I willing to pay $390 for the dress on Poshmark. (We're doing a simple ceremony and then party -- also can't justify spending $30k on one day when most of our family is either halfway across the country or overseas soooo....)
The dress is a knock off of an Alice and Olivia dress and the samples I ordered look great already! I will try to document the process of making it. I'll be making a muslin, then fittings, then another muslin. Ugh.
Unless I just get pissed off at it and throw it away which is also entirely possible! LOL. We'll see.
